On September 10, KST, JTBC reported that a popular YouTube creator and meditation instructor was accused of sexual assault by multiple victims.
The accused, identified as Mr Lee, ran a YouTube channel focusing on teaching meditation and had garnered a sizable following of 600,000. He also runs an offline meditation center.
Lee allegedly assaulted a client, “A,” while they were attending a meditation class. According to the victim’s testimony, Lee approached them near the end of the class and asked them to stand up and turn around with their hands against the wall. He then proceeded to inappropriately touch her entire body with his own body from behind.
Though “A” protested, Lee did not stop and went ahead to wrap his arms around their waist. He allegedly told the victim that he was romantically interested in her but couldn’t do much about it since he was married.
Lee’s second victim is a minor with intellectual disabilities. They met during a volunteering event, and according to the victim’s mother, Lee approached them in a friendly guise but proceeded to put his hand under the child’s shirt, stroked their back, and touched their buttocks.
Another victim, “B,” who lived abroad, met Lee when they returned to Korea. Lee offered to teach English to “B” but ended up sending them sexually explicit messages instead. The victim eventually filed a police complaint, and in July, Lee was fined ₩2.00 million KRW (about $1,490 USD) and sentenced to 40 hours of sexual violence education.
Lee is reportedly a former singer who has appeared on various TV programs and is still active in the industry.
The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul has taken up the probe against Lee, and they believe that there are at least four victims. The investigation is being expanded to identify more potential victims.
