Racist Car Dealership Ad Under Fire For Blackface

“Literal jumpscare.”

Singapore car dealership JDM Automobile Carros Centre is under fire after a video was released of a salesman wearing blackface. The video clip, filmed for social media, is a skit where the salesman sells a car to an off-screen customer.

Throughout the video, he consistently uses various racist stereotypes. At one point, he imitates a viral video from 2016 called “Hardest Name in Africa.”

Photos of Black people and POC pop up throughout the skit as he shows the customer the car.

The video also featured effects on his face in a mocking manner.

For the remainder of the video, he shows the features of the car while still in blackface.

The video received backlash and was soon deleted. Miss Chia, the dealership’s manager, denied the video having racist intentions.

Netizens found both the video and the denial of racist intentions completely unacceptable.

Eventually, an apology was released by the company. However, many netizens expressed their dissatisfaction and referred to it as a “non-apology.”
