Cringey Dialogue In “Love Next Door” Has Viewers Curling Their Toes In Embarassment

K-Drama Love Next Door (also known as Mom’s Friend’s Son) is a light-hearted romance about two childhood frienemies who reunite as adults as neighbors, starring Jung Hae In and Jung So Min.
So far, the K-Drama has received mixed reactions from netizens. While many are loving the show, it hasn’t escaped criticism for various scenes, including a moment that upset female viewers.
Most recently, netizens have become upset with an “outdated” and even “cringey” script.
Seung Hyo: I don’t think we should stay here.
Seok Ryu: Why not?

Seok Ryu: What bad thoughts?
Seung Hyo: Thoughts I shouldn’t be thinking. Cheap and crude thoughts. Unhealthy thoughts.

Netizens expressed in the comments how the dialogue was so outdated that it became comical and sounded more like something from the early 2000s. Netizens noted that insisting that physical contact is “cheap” and “low-class” is an outdated sentiment.

Many netizens also felt that the dialogue also doesn’t make sense for the age of the characters. One netizen wrote, “I mean, if the leads were college students or in their early 20s, maybe I’d get it… but they’re both in their 30s, and the female lead even had a guy she considered marrying, so why are they like this? Lol.”
