Actor Jung Hae In’s “Love Next Door” Bedroom Scene Said To Be All Cringe And No Butterflies

With the premiere of the tvN weekend K-Drama Love Next Door, viewers have been all about the chemistry between the lead actors Jung Hae In and Jung So Min—even to the point that Jung Hae In had to respond to the dating rumors running wild.
Yet, the K-Drama’s latest episode left them feeling rather turned off.
In Episode 13, the main characters Choi Seung Hyo and Bae Seok Ryu wake up in bed together after making love for the first time as a couple (and not childhood friends). The scene shows clothes scattered on the floor…
…then zooms into the leads in bed facing each other.
While meant to be cute and romantic, the bedroom scene has since been dubbed “the most cringeworthy” of them all.

Bae Seok Ryu: Why are you staring at me like that?
Choi Seung Hyo: It just… This feels just like a dream. I can’t believe it.
Bae Seok Ryu: It’s not a dream, is it?
Choi Seung Hyo: You’re right. It’s real. And we’re together, too.
Bae Seok Ryu: It’s strange. To be here like this together.
Choi Seung Hyo: What’s strange about it?
Bae Seok Ryu: It’s like a ticklish feeling. I’m not sure exactly where, but somewhere deep in my heart, it feels like bubbles popping.
Choi Seung Hyo: Me too.
Viewers couldn’t shake the feeling of how fake and unnatural the directing felt…
The two became lovers after being long-time friends, and they spent their first night together, but that atmosphere was not conveyed at all. The focus was solely on the actors’ awkward and uncomfortable postures. As a result, reactions like ‘Why are they lying so far apart?’ and ‘This has got to be the most demure morning after’ have been pouring in, indicating that the lack of adequate directing from the production team.

…commenting that everything about the scene, from the “tacky print on the bedding” to the “awkward bare shoulder reveal,” made it “all cringe and no butterflies.”

This is actually not the first time Love Next Door‘s directing received backlash. The scene leading up to Episode 13 also left viewers curling their toes in embarrassment:

So it seems the whole business, from start to finish, was not enough to convince the viewers. That said, Love Next Door is a PG-15 rated K-Drama—so, not a lot of heat was to be expected anyway.
