Husband Attempts To Kidnap His Wife In The Middle Of Divorce Court
A court ruling for a married couple is receiving backlash from netizens. The husband, who has been accused of being abusive, attempted to carry away his wife while court was in session.
The woman, identified only by her surname Chen, recently filed for divorce due to domestic violence. She claimed that her husband, surnamed Li, would physically abuse her after he had been drinking. The couple has been married for 20 years, and they have three children together: a daughter and two sons.
At the end of the first trial, the court suggested that the marriage could still be salvaged because Li strongly protested the divorce and because, according to the court, the couple still had a “deep emotional bond.” The court’s refusal to grant Chen a divorce led to her appealing the ruling.
During the second trial, Li picked Chen up and desperately tried to carry her out of the courtroom as she screamed. Courtroom bailiffs stepped in to stop Li, who later apologized for his actions in a written statement. He blamed his behavior on “emotional agitation.”
In my emotional agitation, I mistakenly thought I was about to divorce the appellant, so I carried her out of the courtroom, ignoring the instructions of the judges and court officers who tried to stop my extreme actions. I now realize the seriousness of my mistake and its negative impact. I guarantee that I will never repeat this mistake in the future.

Despite the alarming incident, Chen and Li underwent court mediation and did not divorce. Chen instead agreed to stay married to Li and give him the opportunity to salvage their marriage. According to media reports, however, netizens condemned the court’s decisions and criticized the Chinese legal system’s handling of domestic violence cases.
