HYBE Gets Blasted For Incompetency After BTS Jungkook's Past Comments Resurface

HYBE was recently put on blast for their alleged mishandling of BTS Jungkook’s invite to perform at the 2024 NFL Super Bowl Halftime Show. The New Yorker Magazine reported on October 7, 2024, that a remix of “Standing Next To You” was created in collaboration with Usher, and Jungkook was invited to perform alongside Usher at the halftime show. Although the show took place in February 2024, Jungkook had to decline because of his enlistment in December 2023. Fans are very disappointed; they feel his service could have been delayed to accommodate this opportunity. Since he was born in 1997, he had the option to postpone his service several times until he turns 30.

After the incident blew up, fans recalled how his performance at the FIFA World Cup went. Jungkook travelled to Qatar to perform solo in 2023. During his travels there, Jungkook shared that he had not been aware that he was to perform solo. He had thought it was a group schedule as the company had not communicated well with him.

At first, I wondered what was going on. When I asked, they just said that I was to perform the opening song. So I thought that all the members would be going to perform something together at the World Cup. But later on, I found out that I would be performing alone.

A representative from FIFA also stated that they had difficulties getting in touch with Jungkook’s team. It was only after they contacted HYBE’s Korea HQ, the US branch, as well as BigHit Music and other subsidiaries, that they were able to invite Jungkook to perform. Netizens heavily criticized HYBE for their shoddy work.

I don’t know BTS songs well, but I asked my family in the US and they said his songs are good. Even non-K-Pop fans know them. I think he has potential to be a world star even if he leaves HYBE.
Isn’t he a singer under the company? What’s up with how they do work? Why is their statement “we have nothing to say?”
I wonder what were they thinking when they rejected the Super Bowl?
BTS should just leave HYBE…
