Popular American Comedian Jokes About BTS Suga’s Drunk Driving Scooter Incident

The audience laughed.

American comedian, writer, producer, and political commentator Stephen Colbert is no stranger to ARMYs. In 2019, BTS guested on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, including an interview and beloved The Beatles-inspired performance of “Boy With Luv.”

They even returned to the show three years ago. Then, they performed the hit “Butter” and played a cute game.

Now, a new clip from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is circulating among ARMYs on social media, despite no BTS member guesting on the show recently. Why?

In a recent episode, Stephen Colbert, who mainly focuses on U.S. news and politics, touched on international news with his world-focused segment, “What’s Going On Over There?” This focuses on global news that Americans might find shocking, strange, etc.

When Stephen Colbert read the news from South Korea, he reacted to the report that BTS’s Suga “apologized for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated.” On September 30, the Seoul Court issued a summary order of a fine of ₩15.0 million KRW (about $11,200 USD) for driving under the influence. Previously, Suga was charged with driving an electric scooter while under the influence, as blood alcohol level at that time was 0.227%, and his license was revoked.

Stephen Colbert poked fun at the scandal, expressing his shock that Koreans even need a license to drive a scooter. The audience reacted with laughter. The clip went viral, with hundreds of thousands of views on X (formerly Twitter), and gained traction with ARMYs.

ARMYs called out Korea for punishing Suga for this incident, claiming it’s “bad” when even the U.S. “makes more sense.” What do you think?
