The History Of Jo Se Ho’s “Unwanted” Wedding Guest
On October 20, comedian Jo Se Ho got married at the prestigious Shilla Hotel. Many stars attended the “wedding of the year,” but one celebrity guest made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Actress Lee Yu Bi attended the wedding along with her sister, actress Lee Da In, and Lee Da In’s husband, actor Lee Seung Gi. Both sisters have been embroiled in controversy, largely because of their stepfather’s illicit business practices, but Korean media took particular issue with Lee Yu Bi’s presence this time.
MK News, for instance, referred to Lee Yu Bi as an “unwelcomed guest” in a headline. This is not, however, the first time Lee Yu Bi has been in the news for a wedding-related controversy.
At her sister’s lavish wedding. Lee Yu Bi wore a pink tweed suit with a matching pink bag. Soon after the wedding, the actress was criticized for being a so-called bad wedding guest because, as a general rule, guests should avoid wearing anything that takes attention away from the bride. Her mother, Kyeon Mi Ri, also received some criticism for wearing a bright pink hanbok rather than a more subdued shade.
On the March 19 episode of Strong Heart VS, Lee Yu Bi addressed the controversy. She explained that the pink tweed outfit had been purchased by none other than Lee Da In. At the time, Lee Yu Bi hadn’t had time to shop for an outfit for her sister’s wedding because she was busy filming. So, Lee Da In picked an outfit for her.
As mentioned, the stepfather of Lee Yu Bi and Lee Da In was accused of manipulating stocks, which resulted in many families going bankrupt while his family grew wealthier. Although Lee Da In’s stepfather denied the accusations, the controversy and his reputation as a conartist have followed his stepdaughters throughout their careers. Lee Seung Gi also received massive backlash for marrying into the “scammer family.”
In addition to the aforementioned controversies, Lee Yu Bi also received negative press for her role in the canceled K-Drama Joseon Exorcist, trying to sell a painting with copyrighted characters, and dating rumors. In 2021, her Instagram account was terrorized by netizens after rumors linked her to BTS‘s Jungkook. Lee Yu Bi was previously swept up in dating rumors with The Rose‘s Kim Woosung. Following the Kim Woosung rumors, Lee Yu Bi’s agency, Y-Bloom, pressed charges for the spreading of rumors as well as for the violation of Lee Yu Bi’s privacy, slander, and sexual harassment at Yongsan Police Station.

For these reasons and more, Lee Yu Bi has been the target of hate and criticism for at least the past five years. In 2019, she announced that she would take strict legal action against malicious commenters.
