Controversial Actor Kim Ji Soo’s Social Media Activity Is Defying Celebrity Norms
Actor Kim Ji Soo is continuing his career in the Philippines years after a controversy that received massive backlash in South Korea. The star appears to be making a fresh start while also being candid about his past.
In 2021, Kim Ji Soo was accused of school violence, bullying, sexual harassment, and assault. His agency at the time terminated his contract, and he was replaced in the K-Drama Where The River Moon Rises. Ji Soo enlisted in the military then, in 2023, provided an update on the allegations. He stated that the original accuser has forgiven him.
On August 28, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, a talent agency based in the Philippines, announced that it had signed Ji Soo. The announcement was met with anger from netizens, who condemned Sparkle GMA for its decision and Ji Soo for returning to the spotlight in a different country.

Ji Soo appeared in the series Black Rider on July 3, then in the film Mujigae, released October 9, followed by the series Abot-Kamay na Pangarap. Abot-Kamay na Pangarap premiered in 2022 and aired its final episode on October 19, 2024. Ji Soo has not yet announced his next project.
Following a career-shaking controversy, it’s common for celebrities to delete or private their social media accounts. This may be done for privacy purposes or as part of their decision to step away from the spotlight, either for a temporary hiatus or permanently. If these celebrities do return to social media, all posts related to their controversies are typically deleted beforehand.
Ji Soo, on the other hand, has kept screenshots about his controversy in an Instagram highlight collection called “New.” The oldest screenshot was added 52 weeks ago. The headline reads, “Exclusive: Actor Ji Soo, speaks out for the first time about the school violence controversy… ‘Sexual assault, harassment, and everything else said is false'” (Interview).”
Another screenshot, also posted 52 weeks ago, has a headline that reads, “Exclusive: Jisoo clarifies the school violence controversy and misunderstandings… ‘The claims of sexual violence are completely groundless and absurd.'”
Ji Soo also included screenshots of several English articles:
Ji Soo’s “New” highlights also include video clips and photos from his latest acting projects and a few moments from his personal life. In other words, “New” possibly refers to “new content,” since these posts are more recent than the rest of his highlight collections, but also a “new beginning.”
