Popular Actor Confesses He Rejected K-Drama Roles To Star In 19+ BL Series Instead
Spoiler Alert
Since it was announced that actors Jin Ho Eun (All of Us Are Dead, Revenge of Others, Nevertheless, and Sh**ting Stars) and Nam Yoon Su (Extracurricular, Birthcare Center, Beyond Evil, and The King’s Affection) were cast as Kyu Ho (also romanized Gyuho) and Go Young, respectively, in new BL (Boy Love) K-Drama Love in the Big City, many fans have been looking forward to the release. The K-Drama is adapted from Park Sang Young‘s best-selling novel of the same name, which was Sang’s first work published in English as it was translated by Anton Hur, who also worked on BTS‘s Beyond the Story.
Go Young (Nam Yoon Su), a gay Korean man, lives with Mi Ae (Lee Soo Kyung), a straight woman. Through Mi Ae’s eyes, Go Young embarks on a journey of personal growth. He struggles with his relationship with his mother, who’s in denial about his sexual orientation, and is forced to part ways with his lover Gyu Ho (Jin Ho Eun) due to societal pressure. Recovering from his breakup, Go Young takes a trip to Thailand with a stranger, and manages to learn more about himself in the process. Can Go Young reach the personal enlightenment he desires?

Love in the Big City was finally released on October 21 via Rakuten Viki. Viewers worldwide have been sharing their reactions via social media, praising Nam Yoon Su’s acting and his onscreen chemistry with love interests portrayed by Na Hyun Woo and Jin Ho Eun.
Nam Yoon Su has not just stood firm amidst a storm of homophobia against him but continually promoted the new and progressive K-Drama. Now, he has revealed that he rejected other roles in order to play Go Young.
Nam Yoon Su and the rest of the Love in the Big City cast did a photoshoot and interview for Dazed Korea to promote the K-Drama. During the interview, he was asked, “Is it a project you wanted to do?” Nam Yoon Su revealed he turned down not one but two K-Drama roles because he didn’t want to miss the role of a lifetime, Go Young, in Love in the Big City.
Yes, I wanted to take this on. At the time, there were about two other projects I was discussing. But I ended up not doing them. Instead, I waited for this one. I really wanted to do something like this before I die. My principle is that I ‘never do typical romance.’ My body just doesn’t respond to typical romances. This one felt fresh. I was honestly more curious about ‘how many men will I meet?’ I feel like I’ve met more than in the original novel says. (laughs)

Fans were pleasantly surprised to hear how dedicated Nam Yoon Su was to the role before he had even secured it. We can’t help but love him.
he sent SK into shock with this kdrama and i love that he doesnt give a single fuck about the protests or anything. korean citizens deserve this kind of treatment. hope more artists would be like him that dont give a single fuck and only focus on people that support them. https://t.co/CRpuJO7vC1
