Netizens Rush To STAYC Yoon’s Defense After Trainee Comment Backlash
Recently, STAYC‘s Yoon received backlash for her comments as a mentor on the survival show Starlight Boys after asking trainees why they clapped for a group’s performance.
some of y’all didn’t watch the whole thing and it shows. here’s the full clip of the performance cus i’m tired of y’all shitting on yoon without knowing the full context. https://t.co/Cqh9vUhe7w pic.twitter.com/fVIfAsOEzh

After the clip gained attention, both Korean and international netizens stepped in to defend Yoon. They shared how this is the norm for other judges on the show, as well.
Are you a student club, kids? Are you promoting as a student club? This was miserable. So miserable.
— Choi Youngjun
Similarly, it has been the history of survival shows for judges to speak honestly to contestants, such as Produce 101…
Can you do it tomorrow? Can you do it the day after tomorrow with this kind of mindset?
…as well as Boys Planet.
How many years have you been performing ‘Kick It’?
Netizens weighed in on the issue, showing support for Yoon as they believe she didn’t cross a line with her criticism.
- “Wow, what was that stage… lol. In a quick shot, one trainee was laughing like it was funny, but look at that. Is that something to clap for?”
- “I don’t understand why i-roaches always get mad at such strange things.”
- “Damn, female idols are always easy targets. It’s not like Yoon said anything she shouldn’t have.”
- “Isn’t it pathetic to throw a fit and spam a small girl group’s Instagram just because a trainee you like got criticized?”
- “I wondered how bad they were, and now I see. Are they really going to debut with a performance worse than a school club’s? Good luck with that.”
- “It’s understandable to be surprised at first, but watching the stage, it seems like Yoon was genuinely curious and just asking. Criticizing her for that is going too far.”
Fans on Twitter also came to her defense, stating that Yoon has simply been painted the face of a misogynistic hate train.
suddenly everyone's bias was yoon and are disappointed in her pic.twitter.com/fw9YjSc7fY

and if i said a lot of this yoon hate is rooted in misogyny bc how are they managing to paint her as a villain over a 5 second obviously scripted clip when another judge had a whole speech defending the mistreatment of idols when he isn’t one himself pic.twitter.com/TjkKGgKZHO

i find it strange how its yoon getting the most backlash for single comment when its the rest of judges doing the most harmful stuff like all she did was ask why they are clapping and its the choreographer giving actually rude comment but u only see her getting called a bitch pic.twitter.com/JfQnfMukbW
