Earlier this year, it was announced that BLACKPINK’s Lisa would make her acting debut, joining the cast of the HBO program The White Lotus. The White Lotus originally began as a limited series, but due to its popularity, it has expanded and is entering its third season.

An all-star cast heads to a resort to unleash their worst, most privileged impulses. The series is a sharp social satire following the exploits of various guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain, whose stay becomes affected by their various dysfunctions. A week in the life of vacationers unravels as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise; with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel’s cheerful employees, and the idyllic locale itself.

First Glimpse Of BLACKPINK Lisa’s Acting Debut In “White Lotus” Is Revealed

However, the glimpse at her role has already garnered criticism, sparking debate.

Lisa’s character Mook appears to be greeting the guests of the hotel, with it assumed she is playing some sort of service industry worker.

Some that viewed the preview spoke negatively about this role, seemingly against the idea of Lisa playing a maid or some other form of worker at the resort.

Many argued that these sort of dismissive thoughts could be considered classist, as they seem to look down on the service industry position she could be playing. Others reminded of the premise of The White Lotus, saying that in previous seasons, the staff of the hotel usually had larger roles than of the guests.
