Son Heung Min’s Teammate Could Face Lengthy Ban From Soccer Due To Shocking Racist Remark Towards Koreans

“More or less they are all the same.”

Mail Sport has reportedly suggested that Tottenham Hotspur player Rodrigo Bentancur will be hit with a seven-match ban for making a racist remark toward South Koreans while talking about teammate Son Heung Min.

Son is one of the team’s biggest stars and one of the most loved public figures in South Korea.

Though the ban is set to be decided on soon, the incident where Bentancur made the racist remark happened all the way back in June. The soccer star appeared on a TV show in his homeland where he was asked for a Tottenham player’s kit.

Asking if they wanted Son’s kit specifically (or Sonny as they call him)  he then added that the shirt could be Son cousin’s too because “more or less they are all the same.

The Football Association has since charged the Uruguayan player with an aggravated breach of its rules and is close to confirming his punishment.

Son himself has commented on the situation after Bentancur posted an official apology on his Instagram account.

Son also took to Instagram to share that he had accepted his teammate’s apology. In a later press conference Son even shared that Bentancur had “almost cried” when apologising for his comments.

I love Rodrigo. I love him, I love him. You know, he made a mistake. But I have no problem at all. At all. We just move on as teammates and friends and brothers, move on together. I hope.

— Son Heung Min

Though he is one of the biggest soccer stars in the English Top Division (the Premier League) Son has unfortunately often been the subject of racist remarks and actions – especially from rival fans in the stands. As such, fans expect stricter bans and action from the Football Association to avoid similar incidents from happening again.
