Female Idol’s Omission From Winning “2024 Melon Music Awards” Bonsang Sparks Heated Debate
A female idol has been “snubbed” ahead of the 2024 Melon Music Awards.
For the MMAs Bongsang award, there was a table with the groups thought to be in contention for the prize (which is given to the top 10), taking into consideration a number of criteria, including digital points and voting.
Recently, the winners were announced.

A huge debate was sparked after Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon didn’t get an award. They had seemingly skipped over her 8th place spot and gave it to Jungkook, who had been in 11th place on the table.
When the results were shared online, netizens shared their thoughts, with some confused and others sharing that it isn’t the first time Taeyeon has been “snubbed” by the MMAs.
- “Daily user counts include downloads, but even with the weight given, downloads have been pretty much irrelevant for a long time except for someone like Lim Youngwoong. Plus, overturning by more than 5 points is ridiculous. And it’s not like Taeyeon is weak in downloads, lol.”
- “Taeyeon has won a grand prize at other award shows before. Why act like she’s some kind of victim?”
