83-Year-Old Korean Woman Becomes The Oldest Student To Sit For “Suneung”
South Korea recently wrapped up its annual College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) or Sunenung. Around half a million high school seniors and graduates took the test to secure a spot in their dream colleges. Among those, one examinee made headlines thanks to her unbelievable perseverance.
At 83 years old, Lim Tae Soo was the oldest test taker this year. On the morning of November 14, Thursday, she took her college entrance test at Hongik University Girls’ High School in Seoul’s Mapo District.
Lim, who is a student at Ilsung Women’s Middle and High School, entered the exam site while being cheered on by her classmates. According to local media reports, she dreamed of becoming a teacher when she was young. But 70 years ago, when her father became ill, she had to give up her education.
Lim then got married and gave birth to four children. Not only did she raise the four of them, but also spent her later years helping raise her three grandchildren. After many years, when she finally found the time for herself, Lim went back to school.
I raised all my children and sent them to college, so I get to study now and I am having a lot of fun taking the Suneung. I really enjoy learning from all aspects. Even though it’s late, it’s incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling.
