Controversial Star Yoo Ah In Sells Itaewon Home At Shocking Price Amid Drug Trial
Actor Yoo Ah In has reportedly had to sell his residence in Itaewon at a price far below its original value. The actor is currently on trial — and has been for years — for habitual drug use.
A report from Biz Hankook alleges that Yoo (whose real name is Uhm Hong Sik) sold his luxurious property after it had been listed for sale for three years.
Originally priced at ₩8.00 billion KRW (about $5.73 million USD), the home was sold for ₩6.30 billion KRW (about $4.51 million USD) in October, marking a sharp ₩1.70 billion KRW (about $1.22 million USD) discount.
The residence gained widespread attention in 2020 when it was featured on the popular MBC show I Live Alone. Shortly after, Yoo relocated to Hannam-dong. The Itaewon property was put on the market in the wake of allegations of habitual drug use, which have since escalated into a full-blown court case. Experts speculate that the reduced price reflects a rush to sell amid his ongoing legal troubles.
Compounding the situation, the building was reportedly sold with compliance issues. Records show that Yoo had illegally added 10.8 square meters to the ground floor in 2017, leading to a citation from local authorities.
In a recent trial, Yoo was sentenced to one year in prison for habitual drug use and illegal drug purchases. However, he was cleared of some charges, including allegations of evidence tampering, due to a lack of proof.
Yoo’s legal team has appealed for leniency, citing his father’s death and the actor’s deep sense of guilt. The next hearing is scheduled for later this month.
