President Yoon Suk Yeol Withdraws Emergency Martial Law
He announced it through a televised speech.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has accepted the parliament’s decision to revoke emergency martial law.
On Wednesday, December 4, Yoon addressed the nation in a televised speech and announced that he had withdrawn the military forces deployed to enforce emergency martial law. He also pledged to lift martial law as soon as the necessary members of the Cabinet arrived to meet the quorum.
President Yoon’s decision came six hours after he declared martial law on December 3, KST, at around 10:20 pm. Shortly after the announcement, 190 lawmakers present at the National Assembly voted against the declaration and pressured the President to abide by the parliament’s decision.
