4th Gen Boy Group Make All-Time Music Show History With Emotional First Win

Congratulations to them!

On the December 6 episode of Music Bank, many groups attended the weekly music show and performed their recent comebacks. The two nominees for the episode were TWS with their song “마지막 축제” and NCT subunit WayV with the Korean version of “Frequency.”

Each of the boy groups have already achieved their first win, with WayV earning most of their wins with this comeback. TWS have earned wins since their debut, and added another three during their last comeback cycle.

TWS and WayV each had voting sections where they performed stronger, with the Pledis group scoring higher across all but one of the voting categories. Despite this, WayV’s high scores and larger percentage of fan votes helped the group secure their win.

The group did not seem to expected it, with leader Kun and Xiaojun falling to their knees just after the announcement was made. The group were all smiles as Ten began their speeches, thanking fans and their team for the win.

Though WayV have already gotten their first music show win and had others, several were on MTV‘s The Show, which is broadcast on a subscription channel. Music Bank, Inkigayo, and Music Core are all broadcast on public television and as a result are considered “harder” to win by some.

Not only does this occasion mark WayV’s first public music show win, but a historic first across all public music shows as the first group with all non-Korean members to win! Fans congratulated the group for making history!

Congratulations to WayV!

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated all of WayV’s music show wins were on MTV’s The Show. WayV also won on Show Champion during promotions for “Frequency.”
