NCT‘s Taeyong recently liked aespa Giselle‘s Instagram post using his public account. The interaction, while innocuous, sparked a huge debate about idols showing off their friendship online.
A post calling him out has gone viral with over 1.1 million views.

Taeyong… You pressed like on your public account!

Giselle’s post was a sponsored one by the brand Loewe, for which Taeyong is also an ambassador for. Some fans dismissed it as a show of support for his fellow brand ambassador. After all, he has not liked any of her other posts thus far.

I think he liked it because it’s Loewe.

On the other hand, Taeyong also liked a couple of other posts from female idols, namely Red Velvet.

Many defended him, claiming that it was an acceptable show of support as he is his hoobae from SM Entertainment.

It’s his company hoobae. What’s wrong about this?

Others dismissed any possibility of them dating, given that he used his public account.
They’re FRIENDS that’s why he can openly like it like that. You think he would like her post openly if they’re dating? Lol https://t.co/wcPJGwVGh7

This is not the first time that Instagram has sparked a debate amongst K-Pop fans. Previously, EXO‘s Suho admitted that he wanted to like BLACKPINK Jisoo‘s post, but was embarrassed to.
