BTS’s V Dethrones Mariah Carey On Billboard Chart

He recently released a single for the holidays.

American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey is known as the queen of Christmas due to her hits, such as “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Although originally released on her album Merry Christmas in November 1994, it continues to chart to this day. As a result, Mariah Carey is “the first artist to have ranked at No. 1 on the chart in four distinct decades (1990s, 2000s, ‘10s and ‘20s).”

…as streaming has grown and holiday music has become more prominent on streaming services’ playlists, it hit the Hot 100’s top 10 for the first time in December 2017, and the top five for the first time in the 2018 holiday season. It led at last, prior to this week, over the holidays in 2019 (for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four) and 2023 (two).

Just last week, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” ranked No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Yet, Mariah Carey’s hit has now fallen to No. 2.

BTS‘s V dethroned Mariah Carey, as his new single, “Winter Ahead,” featuring vocalist Park Hyo Shin, ranked No. 1 on the Holiday Digital Song Sales chart this week.

In the past tracking period in the U.S., ‘Winter Ahead’ sold 10,300 copies, according to data provided by Luminate. Carey’s cut managed only about one-third as many sales, as ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ was purchased by 3,200 people in the country.
