Fourth-Generation Idol Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison After Killing Man In Drunk Driving Accident
The infamous DJ Yesong — whose real name is Ahn Ye Song — has been sentenced to eight years in prison following a tragic incident where she caused the death of a motorcyclist while driving under the influence.
The Supreme Court recently upheld the lower court’s decision, finalizing the sentence for the 29-year-old star.
The fatal accident occurred in February when DJ Yesong, heavily intoxicated, was driving in Seoul’s Gangnam district during the early morning hours. She struck a motorcycle traveling in front of her, fatally injuring the rider, a delivery worker in his 50s. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive. Authorities revealed that her blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was 0.221%, well above the legal limit.
Reports indicate that DJ Yesong had been fleeing the scene of a previous traffic collision when the deadly crash occurred. The court highlighted her failure to stop and provide assistance as a critical factor in the case, stating that she neglected her legal obligations under the Road Traffic Act.
The court initially handed down a 10-year prison sentence, emphasizing the severity of her actions. However, during the appeal, her sentence was reduced to eight years. The appellate court considered her confession and an agreement reached with the victim’s family when deciding to lower the punishment. Nevertheless, they underscored the reckless nature of her driving, noting that she ran red lights and drove at unsafe speeds, endangering others.
Despite further appeals by DJ Yesong, claiming the reduced sentence was excessive, the Supreme Court dismissed her case, affirming the eight-year prison term.
