Successful Idol-Turned-Actress Admits She’s Not Interested In Going Back To Idol-ing
In 2012, Seolhyun made her grand debut as an idol with the girl group AOA, but she also debuted as an actress with KBS‘s K-Drama My Daughter Seoyoung. Given her experience performing on stage and on screen for more than a decade, Seolhyun is undoubtedly one of the more successful idol-turned-actresses in the field.
But since 2019, her on-stage activities have effectively come to a full stop after AOA released their 6th mini album, New Moon, in November. That said, what are Seolhyun’s thoughts on the prolonged “hiatus” as an idol?
In an interview with Newsis, Seolhyun admitted that she’s not planning on going back to idol-ing—at least not for now.
I’m becoming more and more sincere about acting. I can’t say I’ll never return to being an idol, but for now, I plan to focus on acting.

Seolhyun added that, for her, “it’s important to keep acting consistently without taking long breaks” to keep her connection with acting going strong.
After finishing a project, I feel like I understand acting a little better. But if I take a break, that feeling fades. So I think it’s important to keep acting consistently without taking long breaks.

Noting that she would like to find more composure and improve her acting skills in her upcoming 30s, Seolhyun looked forward to another successful year as a reliable actress in the K-Drama and K-Movie scene.
When I was active as an idol, I could take the lead in my work. I could be involved in structuring the album, creating it, and deciding its release timing. But as an actress, I can’t work unless I’m chosen. I have to be called upon to take a role, and I need to adjust to the filming schedule. At first, all of this made me feel uneasy. But over time, I’ve learned how to manage my fears and how to truly rest. Since I had a good year this year, I think I can have another good year next year, too!

Actress Seolhyun’s latest endeavor includes the role of Ji Young, a ghost, in Disney+‘s Light Shop. Seolhyun’s chilling portrayal of the character in the webtoon-based mystery horror K-Drama has earned tremendous praise from the viewers.
