Beloved Actor Launches Project To Help Climate Refugees
Actor Lee Je Hoon has announced a new phlanthropic project to help those most vulnerable climate change.
Lee is collaborating with Oxfam Korea, an international relief and development oganization to launch a Naver Happy Bean funding project. Commencing on December 25, KST, the “Water Tank Keyring” project will support the poorest populations around the globe who are most at risk due to climate change-induced calamities.
The keyring was designed by Lee Je Hoon himself, drawing inspiration from the children in Tanzania whom he spent time with in 2016 as an Oxfan Korea ambassador. He was at a relief site and spent his days helping install drinking water and sanitation facilities. Lee saw children playing with toy trucks made from discarded material, and was inspired to to create a keyring from leftover leather to minimize carbon emissions.
The donation campaign will last about a month from December 25 and participants can take part through Naver Happy Bean. The funds will be used to provide clean water, food, and sanitation supplies to the communities who are worst affected by droughts, floods, and conflicts.
Meanwhile, Lee became an Oxfan ambassador sine 2015 and was the first member of the Oxfam Honors Club after donating over ₩100 million KRW (about $68,800 USD) to the organization’s campaigns. He has also visited Tanzania and Phillippines to directly participate in relief work.
