Korean Remake Of Taiwanese Movie “Secret” Sparks Backlash Prior To Release
“Do Kyungsoo, why are you ruining the movie from my memories?”
Still cuts from the Korean remake of the 2007 Taiwanese movie “Secret” have been released — but netizens aren’t quite feeling it.
EXO’s D.O., known in the acting world by his full name Do Kyungsoo, has big shoes to fill as the main lead.
He stars alongside actress Won Jin Ah…
…and actress Shin Ye Eun.
However, some netizens stated that because many people have a nostalgic attachment to the globally renowned original, a remake must be done precisely right to gain praise.
Many netizens are already unimpressed with the casting and have low expectations.
- “Do Kyungsoo… doesn’t really suit the role. For the Jay Chou vibe, it’d be better to have someone like Kwon Sang-woo in his prime, with a slightly soft voice but some masculine charm.”
- “Do Kyungsoo, why are you ruining the movie from my memories? Lol.”
- “It makes me sigh.”
- “Feels like it’ll flop. He doesn’t suit the role. And honestly, this movie is more about that legendary piano battle scene than the story itself. There’s no way the piano battle between the two male leads from the original, which surpassed the storyline, can be recreated. If it were a remake of something that was only a local hit, it’d be fine, but since the original is so globally famous, a poorly done remake will really upset the original fans.”
- “Just watch the original. Who would go to the theater to watch this except fans? Especially now, when ticket prices are so expensive—you gotta skip what needs skipping.”
