Korea has changed it’s military enlistment system making it more difficult for idols to delay enlistment
An amendment to the Military Service Act has made it harder for male celebrities to delay their enlistment.
The Military Manpower Association (MMA) has created a new amendment stating that they will be directly managing the enlistment of celebrities. The list of included professions includes singers, actors, comedians, dancers, DJ’s, models, and other broadcast personalities. This also extends to contracted trainees within agencies and athletes.
All male celebrities who fall into one of these categories and was born between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1999 are now required to submit their personal information to the MMA. Many entertainment agencies were notified of this change earlier this month. Once the MMA calls for a celebrity’s enlistment, they must report. They are not allowed to delay their conscription anymore.
The MMA was already managing the enlistment of the children of high-ranking officials for the purpose of maintaining fairness and now it has extended to celebrities. This new act will be enforced starting in September 2017.
