On a recent live stream, BTS’ V played some of his favorite songs for ARMYs. Many fans were surprised by how vintage many of the songs were, but it just goes to show how deep his music knowledge goes.
1. “My Happiness” by Connie Francis
Francis was a popular singer in the late 50s and early 60s. This love song has a very melancholy vibe.
2. “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke
Sam Cooke is often referred to as “The King of Soul”, and was also popular during the late 50s and early 60s.
3. “I Believe in Dreams” and “Singin’ in the Rain” by Doris Day
Doris Day is best known for her very successful acting career but also had a well-received music career. Before playing the song on stream, V asked ARMYs if they wanted to hear cool music and tells them that he’s “very into it”.
4. “Love Letters in the Sand” by Pat Boone
V’s recommendations feature heavily songs from the 50s and 60s. Pat Boone was the second most popular artist of his decade, just trailing behind Elvis Presley.
5. “Half as Much” by Rosemary Clooney
Clooney is most well known for her appearance in the successful movie-musical, White Christmas, with Bing Crosby.
6. “Stranger on the Shore” by Andy Williams
Williams gained 15 platinum and 3 gold certified albums out of the 44 albums he recorded throughout his career and “Stranger On The Shore” was one of his most popular hits.
7. “Goodbye” by Mary Hopkin
Mark Hopkin is a Welsh folk singer and was one of the first musicians to be signed to The Beatles’ Apple label.
8. “Yesterday Once More” and “(They Long to Be) Close to You” by The Carpenters
V couldn’t help but sing along to this brother-sister duo’s music. “Close to You” appeared in the drama She Was Pretty, which was where V first heard it.
9. “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra is one of the most famous singers and influential singers of the 20th century, and “Fly Me to the Moon” is one of his most famous songs.
10. “Only You (And You Alone)” by The Platters
The vocal group is often considered an influential precursor to the American rock-n-roll era. They solidified their success by getting this song inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame.
11. “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay
This is one of the few modern songs on this list. The band Coldplay was created in the late 90s and has since won 7 Grammy awards out of their 26 nominations.
12. “Amazing You” by Han Dong Geun
Han Dong Geun won MBC’s Star Audition Season 3 and has since been a successful solo artist. V claims to be practicing singing this song himself.
13. “(When Your Heart’s On Fire) You Get Smoke in Your Eyes” by Vic Damone
Damone is an Italian-American pop and big band singer and had many hit records throughout his career in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
14. “Everone but You” by The Skyliners
The group’s music is considered to be in the “doo-wop” genre, and are in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The remaining members still tour and perform today!
