AOA’s Jimin, Tymee, Lucky J’s Jessi, and Cheetah join Mnet’s “Unpretty Rap Star”
The first female survival rap star program will make its debut on Mnet this January, and will feature some of the best rap artists of Korea, of which four members have recently been revealed.
On January 12th, Mnet’s Unpretty Rap Star, a spin-off of the cable television channel’s Show Me the Money, revealed Lucky J’s Jessi, Tymee, AOA’s Jimin, and Cheetah as the first four out of its eight total contestants. Unpretty Rap Star is expected to reveal a fierce rap battle between some of Korea’s hottest female rappers.
Lucky J’s Jessi has recently showcased her rap vocals at a latest collaboration stage with Ailee and SISTAR’s Hyorin on MBC Gayo Daejejun, performing “Bang Bang.” In addition, Jessi previously debuted as a soloist in 2005 under the name Jessica H.O, sharing her strong rapping skills. Following her solo stint, she also became a temporary member of the hip-hop group Uptown, gaining the nickname of “Yoon Mi Rae 2.”
As the lead rapper of girl group AOA, Jimin has shared through various of the group’s hit tracks that she carries a unique rapping rhythm and sound.
Known as the female Outsider, Tymee (previously known as E.via) is the fastest female rapper in Korea, rapping at 160 beats per minute. Meanwhile, Cheetah received a lot of attention as part of the group Black List that performed on Show Me the Money 1 in 2010.
The remaining four members of Unpretty Rap Star will be revealed at a later date. The show will air on January 29th through Mnet at 11PM KST for six weeks.
