MAMAMOO’s Wheein Apologizes For Inappropriate Comment Regarding Typhoon Prapiroon

Wheein made a reference about their latest track “Rainy Season” and typhoon Prapiroon.

MAMAMOO‘s Wheein uploaded a brief message on their fan cafe, where she referenced Typhoon Prapiroon with MAMAMOO’s latest song “Rainy Season”.

She was thanking her fans for listening to “Rainy Season” and raising the track to 5th place on MelOn Charts.

The issue with her remark was that Typhoon Prapiroon has been wrecking various parts of Japan and Korea, causing people to evacuate from their homes.

Netizens began criticizing her for her inappropriate comment, claiming it was inconsiderate to talk lightly about the typhoon when it’s caused devastation to others.

  • “I don’t think she meant it that way but it was wrong of her to say it like that. She crossed the line with her expression.”
  • “What kind of bullsh*t is that? She was really inconsiderate.”
  • “Everyone who’s claiming she uploaded it before all the damage and that she deleted soon after, do some research about natural disasters. Typhoons always bring disasters to people and property… She should be ashamed for even making a play on words like this as a celebrity. She should’ve known better.”
  • “There are people who are suffering from all the rain and flooding, but you’re gunna talk like ‘Please listen to our song when it rains a lot’? Does that even make sense?”

Wheein soon deleted her post and issued an official apology, claiming she was thoughtless in her actions and will be more careful in the future.

“Hello, this is Wheein.

I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt and uncomfortable from my thoughtless and immature writing. I will do my best to do better and be more careful in the future.”
