Billboard Just Released Their Famous “Year In Music” List, Here’s How BTS Did
It’s that time of year again! Billboard has released their annual “Year In Music” list, and global superstars BTS took top spots in multiple categories.
In 2018, BTS was the No.1 artist on Billboard’s “Social 50 Artist”, “Independent Albums Artist”, “World Album”, and “World Albums Artist” charts.
According to Billboard, BTS has accomplished something that not even Justin Bieber, the king of the “Social 50” chart, has achieved.
BTS ruled the “Social 50” chart for the entire 2018 chart year (Dec. 2, 2017-Nov. 17, 2018). That reign came on the heels of BTS’s 2017 “Social 50” take over, which began on the week of July 29, 2017.
All in all, the back to back reign culminated with BTS’s 100th total week at No.1 on the “Social 50 Artist” chart.
BTS weren’t the only K-Pop artists to make this list though. EXO, GOT7, and NCT also made the top 10 for the “Social 50 Artist” chart at No. 2, No. 6, and No.9, respectively.
For the “Top Artists – Duo/Group” list, BTS was second only to Imagine Dragons.
BTS also placed two spots higher than Bruno Mars and Camila Cabello, at No. 8 on Billboard’s “Top Artists” list.
2018 truly has been BTS’s year for topping charts, winning awards, and making music history. Not only did the group produce multiple bestselling albums this year, they also released their own documentary film, Burn the Stage: The Movie.
According to Variety, BTS’s film has now garnered the biggest box office haul ever for an event cinema release. The film raked in an astounding $18.5 million around the world, so far.
The film, which follows BTS on their 2017 WINGS tour, was seen by more than 500,000 fans around the globe. Burn The Stage: The Movie has officially usurped the attendance record previously held by One Direction‘s One Direction: Where We Are.
After all of these incredible accomplishments, fans can’t wait to see what BTS will achieve in 2019!
