BLACKPINK Performs Mean Girls’ “Jingle Bell Rock” As ‘The Plastics’
BLACKPINK have given BLINKs a surprise Christmas gift that is, in the words of Gretchen Wieners, so “fetch”.
On December 24, BLACKPINK transformed into The Plastics during their Kyocera Dome concert in Osaka to perform a special cover of “Jingle Bell Rock”.
The Plastics are a quartet of popular “mean girls” from the iconic 2004 teen comedy, Mean Girls. This much-quoted film has become a cult classic, and its “Jingle Bell Rock” scene is one of fans’ favorite moments.
In the movie, Cady Heron, Regina George, Karen Smith, and Gretchen Wieners perform “Jingle Bell Rock” at their school talent show while dressed in sexy Santa outfits.
To recreate The Plastics’ look…
…the BLACKPINK members dressed up in similar fur-trimmed, red mini-dresses…
…complete with black, thigh high boots, and Santa hats.
In the movie, The Plastics’ experience some technical difficulties…
…and end up singing with the audience for the rest of their performance.
BLACKPINK took this moment and gave it a new twist. When “Jingle Bell Rock” cut out…
…BLACKPINK dropped a beat and broke out into some intense, hip-hop dance moves!
Fans didn’t expect any of this…
…but they’re loving every second of it!
BLACKPINK followed up their epic “Jingle Bell Rock” performance with two other Christmas classics: the Japanese version of “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” and a cover of Wham!‘s “Last Christmas”.
