JYP Talks About The Biggest Difference Between His And BigHit’s Production Style
During a business conference, Park Jin Young commented on how his agency, JYP Entertainment, and Bang Si Hyuk‘s BigHit Entertainment differ in production style.
Bang Si Hyuk and Park Jin Young have spent 20 years together, growing JYP Entertainment. Park Jin Young was the CEO and head producer, while Bang Si Hyuk was one of his best producers and songwriters. Together, they created multiple legendary hits like Rain‘s “Bad Guy”, god‘s “Friday Night”, Wonder Girls‘ “Bad Boy” and more!
An audience member at the conference asked what he thought about Bang Si Hyuk’s interview answer, where he revealed that the secret to creating the most successful contents is to keep your butt seated. He meant that it’s best to put in the hours and keep grinding on something even if it takes a long time for it to succeed.
Park Jin Young responded that Bang Si Hyuk and he have very different ways of working. Park Jin Young will try his hand at something, and if it doesn’t excite him, he’ll most likely move onto something new. Bang Si Hyuk, however, would stay glued to his chair and work on it until it works.
“The biggest difference between Si Hyuk and me can be found in our graduating GPAs. Si Hyuk graduated with 4.0, while I graduated with 1.9. You can see our differing styles right there.
Si Hyuk is the type to continuously and carefully devote himself to something. For me, I get up if I don’t find inspiration. If I don’t find it inspiring, I’m the style to leave.”

Perhaps that’s the reason why JYP Entertainment has had over 10 artists and groups under their label over the past 10 years, while BigHit basically worked on BTS.

“I was the first one to discover Si Hyuk. He was my first pick back when he was attending Seoul University, and he’s definitely the type to think that way.

Back then, we have great synergy. That’s how we worked together for 20 years at JYP Entertainment.
Yeah, we have different styles, but what can you say? It was Seoul University. It’s pretty boring.”
