NU’EST’s Minhyun Reveals He Knows About “Shipping”
In NU’EST Minhyun‘s recent interview with Esquire Korea, he reveals he is aware of some common practices of fans…which is only a little embarrassing for us.
Minhyun was asked about an article outlining NU’EST’s promotions where a subsection contained the nicknames for different pairings of the group.
Every idol group has that.
— Minhyun
Minhyun displayed his knowledge on the subject of pairing members together (also known as “shipping”) by going further in-depth how fans of all groups do this, and it’s a pretty normal practice.
Fans like to take their favorite member, match them to a member they have good chemistry with, and then make a nickname for the pair.
— Minhyun
The interviewer commented on how NU’EST’s members are all paired with each other, and each pairing has a specific nickname that was thoughtfully given by fans.
Minhyun explains his and member Aron‘s pairing is called “Hackingz” in Korean since he used to hack into Minhyun’s phone and post to his Instagram frequently.
He reveals his knowledge of other ship names, including “Reni-Hyuni” which is a cute combination of his and Ren’s names…
…as well as “Bugiz” for him and JR! This word references Onibugi, or Wartortle in Korean, since fans believe JR resembles the Pokemon. Similarly, Minhyun was compared to a turtle after being slow during a challenge on Produce 101 Season 2.
Dongho and I are Baeko-Fox, right? Like the name suggests, Baeko from Baekho, and fox because they say I resemble a desert fox.
— Minhyun
Minhyun said he thinks after looking at all of these unique pairing names, he thinks the fans are talented with coming up with creative ones!
