BLACKPINK’s Jennie Once Shared What It Took To Debut As An Artist Under YG Entertainment
It’s not easy debuting as an idol, even so from a huge company such as YG Entertainment. With the entire world’s attention focused on the girls of BLACKPINK, just how much did they give up in order to achieve their dreams? Jennie once shared the gruelling experience she had as a trainee.
Every month, all of the in-house producers from YG Entertainment as well as the CEO himself would come down to do a routine check and review on the trainees. Every month, they had to prepare one solo song, one group song, and a dance track for the staff to judge.
Jennie shared that they had to decide on everything by themselves, turning up the pressure on the trainees. From what clothes to wear, to the group members, parts of the performance as well as the songs themselves, they had to take responsibility. The trainees even had to make their own MR tracks and choreograph their own routines.
Halfway through the month, they would get a review before the end-of-month final review so they could correct whatever needed to be fixed. Jennie also revealed that they had to take videos of their choreographies, and include various genres of dance such as popping and krumping. She also said that each trainee had to film a vocal review video every week, as well as submit photos of themselves to check on their upkeep.
It seems that trainee life, especially in YG Entertainment was very strenuous, as each and every part of their training and lives had to be documented for review. Perhaps it was through this gruelling survival that the girls of BLACKPINK got to where they are today! Jennie had the longest trainee period out of all the girls of BLACKPINK, training for about 6 years. Imagine going through this every month for 6 years as a young teen. The pressure must’ve been insane.
It seems that fans completely agree – even if the system is tough, it managed to produce the gems that are YG Entertainment artists. Each of their artists are the top when it comes to skills.
Well, no one said it easy, but at least the only direction to go from here is up! The girls of BLACKPINK and Jennie are doing extremely well, if their successful comeback with “How You Like That” is any indication of it. While we wait for the follow-up title track, relive their glory from the music video of “How You Like That” here.
