KONNECT revealed that they have teamed up with law firm LIWU to create the Clean Internet Center to monitor all malicious comments directed towards their artists. “As of April 2020, our company has been working with law firm LIWU to run the clean internet center. The Clean Internet Center regularly monitors all malicious comments, sexual harassment, and defamation regarding our artists as well as continuously collecting reports sent in by fans.”
They emphasized the fact that although they sent out numerous warnings and requests to the individuals, they disregarded their request. “Despite the requests and warnings, the individuals have ignored our request and we have decided to file a complaint and go through a thorough investigation and strong punishment.”
They hope that fans will continue to report any malicious comments to the agency so that they can collect more data to take strong legal action. “We will continue to take all possible legal measures including criminal and civil claims against malicious comments aimed at our artists. We ask fans to continue to report and support our artists.”
Below is the full statement:
Hello this is KONNECT Entertainment. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the fans that support and love our artist Kang Daniel. As we’ve announced before, we are making great efforts to deal with malicious postings online including slander and defamation regarding Kang Daniel.
As of April 2020, our company has been working with law firm LIWU to run the clean internet center. The Clean Internet Center regularly monitors all malicious comments, sexual harassment, and defamation regarding our artists as well as continuously collecting reports sent in by fans. We are constantly taking preemptive measures to the individuals with warnings and requests for deletion.
Despite the warnings and requests sent to the individuals, the malicious comments have continued, therefore, we have filed a third complaint to the Seoul Metropolitan Prosecutor’s office as of July 24, 2020. Despite the requests and warnings, the individuals have ignored our request and we have decided to file a complaint and go through a thorough investigation and strong punishment. Depending on the results of the investigation, civil claims for the damages will also be filed quickly and efficiently.
We understand that the psychological damage for not only the artist but the fans cannot be recovered through just legal actions. However, with our joint partnership with the Clean Internet Center, we will do our best improve the situation with malicious comments and hope that this investigation will contribute in creating a more mature online system.
We will continue to take all possible legal measures including criminal and civil claims against malicious comments aimed at our artists. We ask fans to continue to report and support our artists. Thank you.
Kang’s agency hopes that the teamwork with their law firm and reports from fans will help prevent more malicious comments from appearing online.
