6 Variety Shows You Probably Didn’t Know SM Entertainment Produced

SM Entertainment may be best known for their K-Pop idols, but they also have a magical touch in variety shows. Some well-known shows are actually produced by SM Culture & Contents (SM C&C) which also houses numerous entertainers and actors such as Lee Soo Geun, Shin Dong Yup, and Kang Ho Dong.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that some of their variety shows feature these comedians. Check them out below!

1. 1000 Song Challenge

Beginning the list is 1000 Song Challenge, an SBS program that aired from 2000 to 2014. Guests competed in singing popular songs from memory. Its 14-year run was largely successful especially among the older generation.

2. We Got Married – Global Edition

We Got Married is one of the most recognizable Korean variety shows. SM C&C was in charge of its global spin-off which featured SM Entertainment artists like SHINee‘s Key and Super Junior‘s Heechul. Couples from its two seasons came from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

3. Dancing 9

Dancing 9 is a performance-oriented show in which teams Blue Eye and Red Wings were pitted against each other. The nine members of each time specialized in different types of dance. It aired from July 2013 to June 2015 with three seasons.

4. The Mickey Mouse Club

The Mickey Mouse Club of SM C&C is a 2015 revival of the popular American show of the same name. It is a children-oriented program that includes musical performances, skits, and games. K-Pop fans know it for featuring SM Rookies like future NCT members Mark, Jeno, Jaemin, and Haechan.

5. Hyori’s Homestay

Hyori’s Homestay, also known as Hyori’s Bed and Breakfast, is a JTBC show that follows celebrity couple Lee Hyori and Lee Sang Soon. They hire new “employees” each season, with IU appearing in Season 1 and YoonA and Park Bo Gum appearing in Season 2. It aired from June 2017 to May 2018.

6. Knowing Bros

Finally, Knowing Bros, also known as Ask Us Anything, has aired since 2015. It follows a high school concept where cast members act as students while the guests are new classmates. Famous comedians like Lee Soo Geun, Heechul, and Kang Ho Dong appear on the show. With over 240 episodes and counting, it is one of SM C&C’s most popular variety shows. It even won numerous awards over the years such as best “Program – Talk Variety” in the 5th Brand Customer Loyalty Awards in 2020.
