SM Entertainment Launches K-Pop Talent Development Academy “SM Institute”
SM Entertainment has partnered with well-known academy institution Jongro Haneul Education to create the new SM Institute.
SM Entertainment and Jongro Haneul Education announced today that they have jointly established the SM Institute, a new global arts education center that focuses on the development of K-Pop and K-Culture talent. The SM Institute will be located in the Dongnang Art Foundation, located in Namsan.
The SM Institute aims to provide the know-how to foster and grow talent, using the successes of Korean pop culture and K-Pop. The institute will also provide specialized language education in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese for their students to continue to learn and become global superstars. They will also offer a subsection of their academy dedicated to models, entertainers, fashion, and influencer management through the operation of their model and actors division.
SM Entertainment and Jongro Haneul Education signed an MOU back in 2016, and since then, have been able to provide their students with the highest level of popular culture education, involving Culture Technology (CT) in their courses. They look to continue to expand on their ability to offer specialized curriculum for their students, producing additional cultural content, and developing the Korean and foreign language programs necessary to cultivate truly global stars.
Due the Coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding the possibility of in-person classes, SM Institute will combine their offline education curriculum and content with advanced learning technology such as artificial intelligence, and provide their education services online, even overseas.
SM Institute is preparing to begin their first classes in March 2021, and prospective students from around the world can begin signing up in October.
