7 Things You Might Have Missed In BTS’s “MAP OF THE SOUL” Pop-Up Trailer
BTS just released the official trailer for “Pop-Up: MAP OF THE SOUL”, the merchandise for their upcoming MAP OF THE SOUL ON:E online concert. Like all of BTS’s work, this animated short has tiny details that are easy to miss the first time around.
1. “Seesaw”
The seesaw at the beginning of the video could be hinting at Suga‘s solo song “Seesaw”…
…but also the balance between light and darkness in these uncertain times. Since this is a MAP OF THE SOUL pop-up store, light and shadow could even be referring to Carl Jung‘s idea of the unconscious and conscious mind.
2. The paper airplane
The paper airplane on this desk could be referencing the paper airplane from…
…”Spring Day” MV, J-Hope‘s solo song “Airplane”, or even “Airplane Pt.2”. Like everything else in this trailer, it’s up to interpretation!
3. The classroom
This empty, nighttime classroom might call to mind BTS’s past, especially their school days music videos like…
…”No More Dream”…
…and “Boy in Luv”.
It could also be hinting at a much more recent video, “Intro: Persona” MV.
4. The office
Could the office in this trailer be bringing back “DOPE” MV? That’s one theory.
Another is that the office is representing ARMYs in the workplace, just as the classroom and seesaw could be for younger fans.
In the trailer, BTS literally shines light on the world and fills it with color, calling us away from our mundane work and school routines for a temporary escape.
5. The grid
Does this grid look familiar? That could be because it also appears on…
…the album art for MAP OF THE SOUL: 7…
…and MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA.
6. The birdcage and feathers
Bring the concert “ON”! The birdcage in the trailer looks just like the cage in the “ON” MV.
Are feathers from the dove Jin set free…or perhaps a swan?
7. “Dynamite” city
The colors in the daytime city…
…perfectly match the colors from BTS’s “Dynamite” art!
