JYP Experiments With New Country-Trot Song With YOYOMI
Today, JYP Entertainment released the music video for the song “Corny Love Song” that was written by J.Y. Park and performed by YOYOMI, an up-and-coming Trot singer. The piece combines the sounds from both Korean Trot and American Country music.
YOYOMI has been called the “Singing Fairy,” “Trot’s Dongsaeng,” and “IU of the Highway” because of her cuteness and her popularity with long-distance truck drivers and cargo shippers. She debuted as a soloist in 2018 with School Music Entertainment and has since then won multiple Trot rookie and popularity awards. She has also been gaining popularity for her Trot covers of popular K-Pop and American Pop songs.
Last year, J.Y. Park began his JYP HardDrive Release project, in which he said he would be releasing songs that he had written but didn’t have a specific artist for. The first of these songs is “Corny Love Song,” which he had made Rain listen to the demo. Rain suggested that J.Y. Park should hold auditions to find a suitable singer for the song, which he made into the JYP HardDrive Project. He called for singers of all backgrounds to submit online recordings, which resulted in various professional singers, YouTubers, and regular, everyday Koreans auditioning.
J.Y. Park then held in-person auditions alongside Kim Taewoo of g.o.d. to select the final artist who would perform the song on the online radio show GoStar BuStar. YOYOMI was selected, and a series of videos were posted on J.Y. Park’s official YouTube channel, which showed the preparation process, including advice from TWICE‘s Nayeon.
