Actor Announces His Retirement From Acting With A Touching Goodbye Letter

After a decade in the industry, an actor in his thirties has decided to move on. He’s leaving acting behind, but not before saying goodbye.

Gao Tai Yu (formerly known as Yao Yang) is a 33-year-old Chinese actor, who made his debut in 2013 in the movie Huang Feihong: Heroes Has a Dream. Since then he has acted in over a dozen films and series, including Only Beautiful (2019), where he played the lead role.

On March 25, Gao posted a letter to his Weibo account announcing his retirement. In it, he looked back on the various lives he lived through his roles, having played everything from an ancient warrior to a modern-day hero.

He also shared specific memories of encounters with his fans, both in person and online, thanking them for their support. “Will I regret not filming anymore?” he mused. “No regrets.”
I’m Actor Gao Tai Yu. I’ve decided to leave the industry. For the past 10 years, I’ve used other people’s name to live thousands of different lifestyles – a king always in danger, an army general capable of conquering anything, a warrior in a fantasy world, an immature and overbearing CEO who makes girls scream, and more…
I have many people to thank for these 3,000 plus days and nights, especially you guys:
The girl who shoved a letter into my hand and just turned around and ran away,
Those who uploaded long recommendation posts for each of my characters with my hashtag,
And even those who fought over whether I looked more handsome in modern clothing or in ancient costumes.
I recharge with full energy every time I see your messages. You guys aren’t just usernames without feelings. You guys are light that shined into my life and sugar that filled up my days.
Will I regret not filming anymore?
No regrets.
