Popular Actor’s Confession Of Drinking Before An Explicit Sex Scene Sparks Controversy
Recently, the Thai series 4Minutes has gained international popularity. 4Minutes is a BL drama about a university student who gains the ability to see four minutes into the future and the relationship he develops with a surgeon.
The series stars “Jes“ Jespipat Tilapornputt as the doctor Tyme and “Bible” Wichapas Sumettikul as Great, the university student.
The series was originally meant to star Bible and his former on-screen partner “Build” Jakapan Puttha, but it ultimately ended up with this casting. One interesting aspect of this series is that there are two versions, one that is a bit more tame and one dubbed the “sultrier” version.
An unexpected debate has arisen regarding the stars, and is related to the sultrier content of the series.
On September 4, during the reaction video for the series’ sixth episode of the “sultrier” version, Jes admitted during an NC (not for children) scene that he was “very drunk.”
Jes: On that day, I was drunk, really drunk. Like I gotta drink alcohol 🥃 #4MINUTES2024 #หนังหน้าโรงxJesBible#bsumone | #BibleWichapas | #jesjpp@biblesumett @jesjpp 🤍🖤pic.twitter.com/zH9mReUSOT

Fans of the actor were quick to defend him from allegations of homophobia, citing the more extreme nature of the sex scene (analingus). Not only do actors have to perform in front of the crew during these sex scenes, but also have to make it look natural and intimacy is not always easy.
Drinking alcohol to act in difficult and sensitive scenes is normal. If you don't know, Samlin drank until he was completely drunk to perform this wonderful scene. If you think Jes is homophobic because he drinks then you are stupid and ignorant. #4MINUTES2024 #jesjpp pic.twitter.com/ahMcuDMufI

This is all over my TL so here are my thoughts:
I love and respect Jes and nothing he's said has made me change my opinion of him in the slightest. Some of you are having knee-jerk reactions (oh and btw if queer cred is relevant then let's just add here that I'm queer as well.)…

Calling someone homophobic because check notes, needed a few drink to shot a scene he never done before in his career and a realistic one too may I add is a weird take ,but each their own I guess. Please call out the hundreds other artist too who done the same for that. https://t.co/OzOqHBuMek

Surprisingly, just a few days later, Bible came to his defense, admitting that he too drank alcohol before his first NC scene, and explaining why actors have done so. Alcohol is a depressant, meaning that, when used responsibly, can help an individual relax.
The first NC scene I ever filmed I drank alcohol to calm my nerves.

I'd say to each their own. First time is difficult for everyone, for me a little wine helped and now I can do NC scenes without alcohol. As long as you aren't abusing it or relying on it.

I'm not saying it should be normalized. I'm telling people the truth. The reality is it is really difficult to film these scenes. I want to share my experience. Take it how you will. I'm just telling you the truth.

Jes also added his thoughts, saying that it wasn’t always needed but could help an actor provide their best performance.
The series is available to watch on multiple platforms, though the “sultrier” version is only viewable on Viu and iQuiyi.
