Actor Who Went Missing Found Days Later As Victim Of Human Trafficking
Wang Xing, a Chinese actor who went missing after responding to a casting call, was recently rescued from a scam compound in Myanmar.
According to media reports, he had traveled to Bangkok on January 3 after being cast by a Thai production team to participate in a movie shoot. But he lost contact later on the same day in Mae Sot, a northwestern Thai city bordering Myanmar. The place is infamous for fraud and criminal activities.
The actor’s disappearance became a hot topic after his girlfriend issued an urgent plea for help on social media. In the post, she revealed that Wang was led through Thai immigration control by a person claiming to be a film crew member and driven to Mae Sot district.
The post prompted Thai police to launch an investigation, and they found Wang on January 6. He was confirmed to be a victim of human trafficking and fraud syndicates.
Thai police confirmed that Wang was tricked into entering Myanmar by fraud groups. In his testimony, the actor revealed that he was sent to a scam center by armed people and that there were at least 50 other people from different countries trapped at the same facility where he was.
Wang also said that he was forced to practice typing for two to three days under inhumane pressure.
