Popular Actress Duped Out Of Millions Of Dollars In Appearance Fee
According to reports on May 27, an A-list actress has been a victim of unpaid appearance fees for a hit film she did seven years ago.
Mao Xiaotong, who played the lead role in the popular TV series Hua Jianghu: Bu Liang Ren II, was promised around CNY 12.5 Million Yuan (approximately USD 1.7 Million Dollars) for the movie. But when the film was completed, she didn’t receive her pay. After waiting for over five years, Mao sued the production company Yin Bai Nian to claim her wage.
Mao won the lawsuit and the court ordered Yin Bai Nian to pay her the unpaid appearance fee, along with a late fee of CNY 2.5 million Yuan (nearly USD 345,000 Dollars). The company, however, didn’t provide assets to enforce the judgment. Even seven years later, Mao Xiaotong has not been paid her compensation for the film.
This issue came to notice after Liu Jin, another actor who worked in a supporting role in the same movie, came forward on May 27, and confirmed that both her and Mao were still not paid by the production company for their work. Liu Jin is still owed CNY 16,000 Yuan (USD 2,200 Dollars).
Meanwhile, Mao Xiaotong rose to prominence with a supporting role in the drama Empresses in the Palace. Some of her more popular works include Love O2O and The Princess Weiyoung.
