Man Marries 13-Years-Younger Woman — After Hitting Her With His Car

Have you ever been struck by Cupid’s arrow? How about his car? An age-gap couple is making headlines for an unconventional love story that’s straight out of a movie.

A man from China, 36-year-old Li, met his wife-to-be two years ago, in December 2023. At the time, he was 34, she was 21, and a car was about to become their matchmaker. Li, who was speeding due to an emergency, accidentally hit the woman, who was on an e-bike.

Li stopped to check on her and apologize. According to news reports, she responded to Li’s apology with, “No worries,” as if Li had just bumped into her while walking down the street, not knocked her over with his car. The woman was later diagnosed with a broken collarbone.

Given that Li was at fault, the woman would have been well within her rights to ask for compensation, but she didn’t. Neither did her parents, who didn’t blame him for the accident. Instead of financial compensation, Li gave the woman his time and attention while she was healing in the hospital. He visited daily, and in the process, she fell in love with him. Three weeks after the accident, she confessed her love to Li…who rejected her.

Because Li is thirteen years her senior, he felt that he was too old for her. He distanced himself from her for a while but eventually agreed to go on a movie date. One thing led to another, and by September 2024, the couple was expecting their first child. Li and his wife tied the knot on February 6, in her hometown, and their future is looking bright.

They are anticipating the birth of their child, but also positive changes for Li’s career. His wife works at a milk tea shop, while Li works as a salesperson and businessman. In China, it’s customary for the husband’s side of the family to pay a sum. Knowing that Li is in debt, however, his wife rejected the bride price of 188,000 yuan (approximately $26,000 USD) so that it could be invested in Li’s business.
