The Rumored Celebrity Couple That Has Been Compared To “Romeo And Juliet”

Someone very close to a rumored celebrity couple has compared them to the star-crossed lovers from William Shakespeare‘s play Romeo and Juliet.

The Juliet in this scenario is Malaysian star Bella Astillah, who underwent a tumultuous and highly publicized divorce last summer.

She and her then-husband, Singaporean actor Aliff Aziz, divorced for the second time after an adultery scandal. At a press conference, held in April of 2024, Bella claimed Aliff had cheated on her with 11 women, including her own sister. His extramarital affairs led to both divorces.

Who is Bella’s Romeo? Rumor has it that she is now dating Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, a Malaysian politician who is currently embroiled in his own public controversy. In 2023, he was sentenced to seven years in prison and two strokes of the cane for multiple corruption-related charges, including money laundering. He subsequently appealed the conviction.

On March 20, Syed Saddiq appeared before the Court of Appeal for a scheduled two-day hearing, which ended with the court adjourning the proceedings to April 17. Bella Astillah was also in attendance to show support, and the two were photographed smiling as they left court together. “She is an extraordinary woman,” Syed Saddiq told reporters, “and I am indebted.”

The dating rumors began in January, after Bella and Syed Saddiq filmed a dance challenge together for TikTok. The pair have since collaborated on more unofficial and official projects, including a brand sponsorship. Both Bella and Syed Saddiq are turning their respective setbacks into comebacks — and having lots of fun along the way!

After Syed Saddiq made what some fans have perceived as a romantic grand gesture, his own mother all but confirmed the relationship by comparing the politician and Bella to Romeo and Juliet. “[Even] with his mother, he never did that,” she joked, referring to how her son swam across the sea for Bella, “never swam, never climbed a mountain or anything.”
