A Chinese scientist is going viral for his breathtaking photos during his youth.

Wang Demin is a petroleum scientist from the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Though he is 87-years old at present, he is just now becoming known for his visuals.

He went viral on Chinese social media sites for looking similar to famous Hong Kong-American actor Daniel Wu who has starred in films like Into the Badlands and American Born Chinese. They could apparently have passed as the same person in different generations due to their rugged good looks.

Wang was unimpressed upon hearing about his new reputation. He considers himself “just a technical guy” and would rather talk about less frivolous matters.

I’m just a technical guy researching petroleum. Let’s talk more about science.

He did admit, however, that he had many admirers when he was younger. Unfortunately for them, he distanced himself as he had no time on his hands. He has worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week, for decades.

[They were] intolerable distractions.

Several netizens spoke up about the attention Wang is currently receiving, saying he should be known for his achievements in his field rather than something superficial such as looks.

  • “The handsome appearance is the least noteworthy of his virtues.”
  • “His intellectual depth is more remarkable. Let’s praise his scientific contributions rather than focus on his appearance.”

Among many other achievements, Wang proposed a geological pressure calculation formula called the “Songliao Method” and invented the Eccentrically Displaced Injection Method which was used to make the Daqing Oil Field one of China’s largest.

He is considered a treasure in the local science community, with media calling his contributions to the petroleum field “groundbreaking and advanced.”
