Woman’s Plastic Surgery Becomes A Hot Topic Following Her Arrest
A 30-year-old woman has been arrested after police received a tipoff for something else entirely.
In Bangkok, local residents became suspicious of a neighbor, surnamed Xie, who often covered her face or wore a mask when she left her apartment. Suspecting that Xie could be an illegal immigrant, they tipped off Thai Immigration Police, who then visited Xie’s residence.
After checking her passport, police discovered that Xie had entered Thailand in late 2022 with a visa-on-arrival. This temporary visa, given to tourists after they arrive in Thailand, would have allowed Xie to legally stay in the country for 15 days. However, she was found to have been in Thailand for over 650 days. This discovery led to her arrest on October 7.
During the investigation, police discovered another secret Xie had been hiding. Xie, who claimed to be a former flight attendant, was wanted by Interpol, the world’s largest international police organization. Interpol had issued a Blue Notice for Xie, meaning that they sought to collect additional information about her identity, location, and/or activities in relation to a criminal investigation.
It turns out Xie is wanted for allegedly defrauding six people of 1.52 million yuan (approximately $213,474 USD) between 2016 and 2019, though her crime spree might have begun as early as 2014. According to one of her accusers, her younger cousin, Wu, Xie had mispresented herself on social media as a wealthy flight attendant. She allegedly used her persona to convince her victims that she would get them lucrative jobs as flight attendants too. Little did they know that Xie had stopped working as a flight attendant a long time ago.
Xie reportedly used some of the money she stole to undergo plastic surgery. According to news reports, her “botched” results have become a hot topic online in China, eliciting criticism and ridicule from netizens. Meanwhile, the Thai Immigration Bureau Division has stated that Xie faces punishment in Thailand for overstaying her visa and will be deported back to China.
