“I tried logging in again, but…”

Dating apps can be a minefield for anyone, but one famous singer ran into problems almost immediately after he signed up.

GACKT, a Japanese pop culture icon and visual kei pioneer, talked about his love life on an episode of Fuji TV’s variety show Poka Poka. The 50-year-old superstar decided to try online dating for the first time, having been persuaded by one of his dancers.

Like every other premium user on the app, he paid 6,000 yen (approximately $37 USD). He also followed the rules by uploading photos of himself and using his real name, Oshiro Gakuto.

“When I opened the app the next day,” he said. “it went back to the login screen. I tried logging in again, but I couldn’t. I wondered why, so I checked my email, and it said, ‘You have been banned due to fraud.’”

To add insult to injury, GACKT found out that many other people were impersonating him and using his photos to catfish their dates! Of course, it isn’t too surprising that catfish would use his photos, given that he has been called the “living manifestation of readers’ fantasy men.”

If GACKT could find real photos of the catfish to use as his profile photos, wouldn’t that be a plot twist?
