Neighbors complained multiple times about the mess.

Anyone who has ever lived in an apartment or condo knows that sharing walls with neighbors isn’t always smooth sailing. Being in close quarters can cause friction, even for celebrities.

Hazelle Teo, a popular DJ for the Mandarin Chinese radio station YES 933, bought a $1.18 million condo with the intention of renovating it. Unfortunately, Teo’s neighbors were happy about her three-months long project.

Neighbors complained that dust from the renovation was blowing out of the 710 square foot apartment, into the hallway, and then slipping into their own units. One neighbor claimed that the dust had dirtied the clean clothes they had hung out to dry on their balcony. According to these residents, the contractors who were hired to work on Teo’s home were at fault for leaving the apartment door and windows open.

Condo management, who received multiple complaints, repeatedly fined Teo $100. Teo, who was uncertain about the number of times she had been charged the $100 cleaning fee, said she wasn’t aware that condos could fine residents. She added that, in her opinion, the mess wasn’t that bad, but she understood the neighbors’ point of view because the dust wasn’t a one-time occurrence.

After the renovations were complete, Teo wrote an apology letter, which she gave to her neighbors along with cookies. In return, one neighbor gave Teo a pineapple and drinks, officially welcoming her to the building.
