In 2021, a man named Yin Cheng was shocked to see his wife, Nana, in a wedding video on social media, mainly because he wasn’t the groom.

He traveled to the city where the wedding took place to investigate, contacted the other man, and confirmed that they had both married Nana. This was, however, just the tip of the iceberg.

As it turns out, Husband #1 and Husband #2 weren’t the only men Nana had married. A total of five people, including Nana and a matchmaker, were responsible for 19 sham marriages that had scammed men in Gansu Province and Inner Mongolia out of around $312,000 USD.

Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao reported on a couple who met online in 2002, fell in love, and dated for seven years before marrying in 2009. The couple appeared happy, even planning to purchase a $730,000 USD home, but things aren’t always what they seem.

Two years after marrying, the wife filed for divorce because her husband had decided not to engage in sexual intimacy with her. The couple had not been intimate prior to marriage either, and the husband claimed he was infertile.

There are many reasons why people can’t or choose not to be sexually intimate with their partners, but the husband’s reason came as a shock to his wife. After filing for their divorce, the wife discovered that her husband decided not to consummate their marriage because he is transgendered. Due to the husband’s non-disclosure of his transgender identity prior to the marriage, the couple was granted a divorce.

3. Secretly Rich and Sneaky

A couple in China filed for divorce after more than 20 years after tying the knot. The divorce proceedings involved an investigation into the couple’s finances. The woman (pseudonym Yu Hong) was shocked to discover that her husband, Qin Lan, had been hiding a huge secret from her for decades.

Qin Lan owned not one, not two, but 18 commercial properties. In total, his assets were worth 100 million yuan (approximately $14 million USD). During their marriage, Yu Hong had been a full-time homemaker and, as such, was dependent on her husband’s income.

 

In court, Yu Hong fought for her share of the assets, but Qin Lan described her as “just a housewife” who was not entitled to her cut because she did not do paid work. The court, however, rejected this claim and ruled it invalid.

It was also discovered that, in an attempt to avoid the payout, Qin Lan had gifted all 18 of his commercial properties to his daughter from a previous marriage. The court ordered Qin Lan’s daughter to return all the assets to her father so that they could be properly divided between Yu Hong and Qin Lan.

4. Surrogate Surprise

A woman in China got the shock of her life when she returned home from work one day and discovered not one but two strangers waiting for her.

The 53-year-old woman, surnamed Guo, found a woman who claimed to have been hired by Guo’s husband as a maid. The woman was holding an unfamiliar baby girl who, to Guo’s shock, apparently belonged to her and her husband. The child had been carried to term by a university student, a secret surrogate. The husband had stolen his wife’s I.D. to apply for a birth certificate, making him and Guo the child’s legal parents without Guo’s consent.

Why? Their only child–a 29-year-old daughter–does not wish to marry or have children, which means that Guo’s husband will never be a grandfather. So, he took matters into his own hands.

A woman in China named Ci Huang discovered that her husband of 27 years, Xing Huang, had been cheating on her for around five years. She also discovered that her husband had given a whopping $4.6 million dollars to his 31-year-old mistress, Danni Zhu, who purchased a house in Canada with some of the funds.

In January 2023, Mrs. Huang filed a lawsuit in China requesting the return of the almost 25 million yuan her husband had gifted, and the court decided in her favor. She is also seeking rights to the proceeds of a future sale of the house.
