Joey Wong is a Taiwanese former actress and singer best known for her roles in Hong Kong films, including the 1987 horror movie A Chinese Ghost Story. Her last film project was Shanghai Story, released in 2004. During the height of her acting career, Wong was dubbed “Asia’s most beautiful woman”…

…and it’s easy to see why.

Now, 21 years after her retirement from the entertainment world, the 58-year-old ex-star is opening a moxibustion therapy center in Vancouver, Canada called Evergreen (Jiujue in Chinese). Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves burning dried mugwort leaves. Medical studies have found moxibustion therapy beneficial for people with kidney disease, hot flashes, and Ulcerative colitis (a type of inflammatory bowel disease).

Although many fans–some of whom are still hoping for an acting comeback–left supportive comments on Wong’s promotional video, some netizens reportedly focused on her appearance, claiming it has drastically changed.

As for the former star, she has decided to focus on her health and wellbeing in the “latter half” of her life.

The first half of my life was full of struggle, exploration, and confusion. In the latter half, I shall focus more on inner peace, physical health, and spiritual fulfillment. I will not give up on the health and promises that moxibustion provides me with. Therefore, I opened a therapy center, and I hope that you can find freedom and health in your body and mind here.
